Her first quilt is finished!

Her first quilt!
Last week I posted that my six-year-old granddaughter had come over to begin working on a doll quilt. Today she came back to finish it. :)

It's pretty hot here right now (we're hitting record high temperatures!), so G's patience and attention span weren't quite as unlimited as the last time. However, we persevered, and she finished her quilt, as you can see. :D As before, she did all of the stitching, while I did the rotary cutting and the pressing for safety's sake. G was pretty excited to get to the quilting, which she did with the walking foot; that was the last step for this quilt. I'd decided to "birth" it, rather than adding binding, and so there was only a single row of quilting around the outer edge and a large X through the middle to hold things in place. The quilt turned out great, and G is justifiably quite proud of it. :D

As soon as it was finished, I asked G if she wanted to take it to our LQS to show some of the people there, and she thought that was a pretty good plan, so off we went. At the store, G showed her quilt to several of the very nice people who work there, all of whom were outstandingly complimentary and encouraging to my granddaughter! They were so nice to her! I took this photo while we were there, as I'd completely forgotten to do it at home. LOL!

  1. I'm currently teaching my 6 year old great granddaughter to quilt. She is sewing 5" blocks together that she picked out and then set up the design on my design wall. Sewn together; now we are looking through my stash for border fabric (which I'm sure will be pink).
